Day 8

How I've been doing:
Not bad, but not good. Day 6 and 7 were both our days off for the Jillian work out. I wanted to do cardio both days but because Bruegg came to visit I skipped out. I also ate a little more often than I normally would (but all good food) and I drank more beer than I should have(woops!).

On the plus side we woke up today at 6:00a.m. and ran our Casa 5K. Starting was rough because of how cold it was outside but we all finished our 3.5 miles pretty quickly. Whitney did 10 min. miles and Lindz and I were right behind her! Tessa came in at the end but she wasn't that far behind either. I felt good after it was all said and done and I definitly wasn't cold anymore. (and we supported a good cause!) Today is day 8 of our 30 days of Jillian training so Whitney and I are doing the work out tonight! (I think Lindz is going to train us)

Work Out Summary:

Jillian has us doing quite a few fun ones today:

-Scorpion push ups

-Dumbell flys on body ball with Crunches

-Leg Extensions

-Jump squats

-Decline dumbell presses

-V Cable Flys

-Squat thrusts (OUCH)

-Side Lunges

-Close grip push ups

-Plank Ups

-One Leg Squats

-Military shoulder press

-Wood Choppers

-Knee tuck jumps

-Static lunges with lateral shoulder raise

-Reverse crunches

-Hanging abs with a twist
-30 second sprints for 5 min off and on (thats at 9 mph!)
We're doing each circuit twice and then doing 15 min. of cardio. I'm glad Linds decided to join team Jillian. She will definitly see results. It's almost like all the news letteres knew that I was going to cheat a little this weekend and decided to focuss their email news letters around me. It was all about staying on track, remembering the long term goal...Jillian left an email reminding me this is a lifestyle and even though it's hard I must keep up with the habits even if I like the results I've seen.
I'll let yall read Jillians past two tips of the day:
1. True or False? Switching from regular to diet soda helps you live longer.
2. Which change helps you live longer: cutting fat or cutting calories?
3. Which exercise is believed to help you live longer: push-ups or squats?
The Pop Quiz Answers
Here are the answers to the pop quiz the teams got last night, with a little commentary from yours truly:
1. False. Diet soda is some nasty stuff, and if you don't know how much I hate it, you're not paying attention. Research indicates that diet soda raises the risk of metabolic syndrome, and the artificial sweeteners in it can throw off the way your brain associates sweetness with caloric content.
2. Cutting calories may help you live longer. Research has found that animals on calorie-restricted diets have longer lives; it's thought eating fewer calories makes the body more efficient.
3. Squats contribute to longevity. How? They help you develop lower-body strength and improve balance, which may keep you from falling and cracking a hip in old age. (You might think this an odd longevity-booster, but broken hips can be devastating to older people — it's often the event that strips them of their mobility and independence.)So get off that Diet Coke, cut those calories, and do those squats — got it?

IT'S YOUR BODY, BABY
Stay the Course So you're well on your way to achieving your weight-loss goals. Feels good, right? Remember, though, my program is about total health. Those changes you're implementing in your life? They've got to be PERMANENT, baby. You might get into a size 8, or have a six-pack to show off, but that doesn't mean you can cheat, get lazy, or stop counting your calories.
Keep in mind, all this work — mental and physical — is helping you look at your life in new ways, with deeper insight and understanding. The bottom line is this: You can never go back to your old way of life if you want to maintain your new physique. You're on the wagon, my friend. As with any kind of recovery, just because you're rehabilitated doesn't mean you can't relapse.
All that soul-searching and honest examination has to continue. All those behavior modifications and healthy, life-affirming habits you learned have to stay in place every day for the rest of your life.
I know, it sucks and it's hard. Whatever. It's the truth. The good news is that it will get easier. You'll get accustomed to how awesome it feels to treat yourself well, not to mention how awesome you look every time you catch your reflection in a store window or look in the mirror! Eventually, behaviors and choices you've had to think through will become gut instinct.
You can do this. Remember, you're doing it right now.
That's it...until Day 9.
